Does dog teeth cleaning hurt? - there should be no pain and minimal discomfort when teeth cleaning,you are advised of any jeopardised teeth that are not safe to work on.
Does my dog need sedation? - NO, not with me, HOWEVER if the teeth are in a very degraded state I will advise you that a full veterinary dental clean is the only option for the dogs comfort.
How long does it take? -Dental cleaning takes approx 60-90 mins according to issues presented and your dogs tolerance.
What happens if my dog won't cooperate?- Where possible I work with your dog to become accustomed to the procedure, in a calm kind manner, doing short sessions instead of one complete session if needed.
Can you clean under the gum line?- Yes, I treat the gumline last in the cleaning process, as that can be a little uncomfortable for them.
How often should my dog's teeth be cleaned?- It depends a lot on your dog and if you brush your dogs teeth, but most have a dental hygienist session every 3-6 months.
Can you clean a nervous/reactive dog?- Mostly YES, I take as much time and patience as is required, and let the dog express their fears rather than try to force them through the process.
What happens during a dental clean?- Generally speaking, it starts with assessment of teeth and dog reaction, then sonic treatment that starts to break down plaque on the tooth surface, then sonic or manual plaque and tartar removal, ending with manual brushing and breath fresh treatment.
Do you do puppies?- Yes, it is never too early to start accustoming a dog to having their teeth cleaned, but I do not use sonic treatments on dogs under 1 year old.
Do you clean cats?- not at the present time.

When should my dog see a vet instead?- A veterninary dental clean will always be more thorough due to them having unfettered access to the whole mouth because the animal is sedated, however that can carry some risks to older animals or those with existing health issues, and doesn't accustom the dog to the procedure of maintenance cleaning. If I believe your dog needs more treatment than I can reasonably offer due to possible pain or exposed roots for instance, I will make you aware.
