FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
My Dog is young, does he need his teeth cleaned?.....
YES! It is better to begin an oral care regime as soon as you can, so your pet is accustomed to the procedures and can be kept in good health for years to come.
My Dog is old, is it too late to tend his teeth?....
Most dogs will benefit from a clean set of gnashers, and our older dogs can lose multiple teeth because they have never received dental cleaning.
My dog has never had anything like this done before?....
I understand that it takes time and patience to create positive experiences for your pet. I work at their pace, using positive reinforcement, kindness & Diploma level knowledge of canine behaviour to ensure the best possible oral care session for your pooch! Starter sessions to full dental cleaning, I have a solution for YOUR dog.
How often would dental cleaning need doing?...
That varies very much on your dogs current condtion, however full plaque removal treatments would only require periodic treatment, for maintenance after cleaning ,I issue you with a dental cleaning plan and FREE DENTAL CARE KIT, so you are able to maintain your dog between my visits.
My Dog is very nervous, he could never have his teeth cleaned could he?...
There are always going to be dogs that just cannot cope with dental cleaning, but they are few and far between. If trained and handled with care, respect & patience, and feel it is a positive experience, then most dogs will accept the treatments very well (even if it takes a little time for some of them!).
How long do sessions take?....
That depends on many factors, ie, your dog's current dental condtion, time spent to introduce your dog to various aspects of dental cleaning & size of the dog, but typically they range between 1 -2hrs for initial sessions, subsequent visits should take less time, but animals being animals? I always allow plenty of time for your pet, I ALWAYS offer A NO RUSH SERVICE! your pets health and happiness is
paramount at all times.
My Dog has had terrible dental issues, and lost teeth, but his breath still smells?....
Yes, bad breath is a major sign of disease within the mouth. Decay, tartar & plaque all affect our dogs teeth as they affect ours. Tooth loss is seen as standard in pet ownership because so many still don't understand the importance of cleaning their pets teeth. It is estimated that approx 85% of dogs over 3 years old have gum disease! That is a long time to suffer sore and bleeding gums, leading to periodontal disease and ultimately an unhappy dog and a costly remedy only by extractions. LET'S SAVE OUR DOGS TEETH!
Is dental cleaning painful for the dog?...
No. I use a variety of dental cleaning tools, designed specifically for dogs. There is very low noise emitted by some of them, others are silent. There may be slight sensitivity afterwards (as we may have after the dentist) but this is short lived and you are advised throughtout as to keeping your pet comfortable.
~IF your dog has major problems with his teeth, a prior vet check will be necessary to remove any teeth, and the dog recovered from that before I can safely clean the remaining teeth.~
